A modest scale, low impact home located in the Tramuntana region of Mallorca. The home runs off sustainably sourced and onsite power, sources and filters its own water, and utilises no gas. Productive gardens further enhance its ‘off grid’ approach. Of significance is the use of local stone – found within only a few kilometers of the site – known as mares. This is a local building material dating back centuries – so use of this material is a return to building methodologies and techniques of tradition and heritage. Sourcing such materials vastly reduces the buildings embodies energy as the stone is quarried so locally, and requires little to no processing.
