Studio Overview

(About_TWA)Tristan Wong | Architecture & Design is a Melbourne based studio specialising in residential (single and multi-unit), commercial, urban scale, hotel and hospitality, public and government projects.

They drive powerful architectural ideas innovatively conceived of to maximise site opportunities, yield potential and sustainability aspirations. With designs highly attuned to the contexts’ in which they reside, their projects exist as memorable, often nostalgic, outcomes navigating and blending both historic memories of the locale with contemporary design.

Across 15 years, Tristan and the team have worked with many of the countries top developers and development teams (both public and private), top tier builders, and built environment specialists, delivering many recognised and large-scale, high-profile projects. The long standing relationships they have established and return client groups are testament to the strong belief they have in projects being not simply about the outcome, but about the journey and professional friendships that can be built. Which in turn lead to even better project processes and outcomes.

Founder Tristan Wong has appeared on competition and awards juries, promoted initiatives at an Institute level, illustrated a book on sustainability, designed and led a variety of exhibitions and installation projects (both locally and internationally), and promoted greater social equality through the numerous social housing projects he has designed and driven.

In 2021, his dedication to architecture and culture achieved significant recognition when he was nominated, alongside Jefa Greenaway, as the Creative Director for the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale, Australia Pavilion. Their groundbreaking project, ‘Inbetween’, explored themes of connection, cultural identity, and the intersections of place, offering audiences a profound architectural narrative.

Exploring the site, concepts and project designs through the drawn medium.

Tristan and the teams commitment to deeply understand the site and context in which a given project resides is significantly informed by a process of rigorous site immersion and exploration. Of understanding not simply the purpose of the brief, but of the history of the site. Its hidden aspects, and off-the-radar moments. This gives each design purpose, and a contextual relevance not always afforded in an industry where time and cost pressures often lead to hasty outcomes, and on-a-whim designs.
